You can pay for Claude Pro, Max and Ultra without a credit card: Anthropic's help center says web subscriptions take a debit card as well as a credit card, and subscriptions bought in the Claude app for iOS or Android are paid through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Claude Team also accepts prepaid cards, and if you have no card at all, you can buy a virtual card with crypto and pay Claude with that card.
This guide covers the routes that work, the two that are closed, what to check in a card, what it costs and how to set it up. Everything about Claude below comes from Anthropic's help center and pricing page, checked November 2026. Anthropic can change its payment rules, so check the billing page of your own account before you pay.
Do you need a credit card for Claude?
No. Claude's Free plan costs nothing, and none of the paid plans needs a credit card in particular.
For the paid plans, Anthropic's paid plan billing FAQ says Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscriptions bought on the web are paid only with a credit or debit card (checked November 2026). A debit card is therefore enough for those plans on claude.ai, and Anthropic's article on declined cards says credit and debit cards are accepted for all purchases.
Anthropic's Team plan billing FAQ says Claude Team accepts credit, debit or prepaid cards. For Claude Pro, Max and Ultra on the web, Anthropic's pages say credit or debit card and don't mention prepaid cards either way. Our guide to which cards Claude accepts on each plan has the full plan-by-plan table.
What are the ways to pay for Claude without a credit card?
Four routes need no credit card, and two that people ask about are closed. The table sums them up, with Anthropic's rules checked November 2026.
| Route | Works for | Who bills you | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debit card on claude.ai | Pro, Max, Ultra and Team bought on the web | Anthropic | Anthropic's billing FAQs list credit and debit cards for these plans on the web |
| Apple App Store or Google Play | Pro, Max and Ultra bought in the Claude app for iOS or Android | Apple or Google | The store sets the payment options, and you manage the payment method in your store account |
| Prepaid card on a Team plan | Claude Team | Anthropic | Anthropic's Team billing FAQ lists credit, debit or prepaid cards, and no ACH bank transfers |
| A virtual card bought with crypto | Any plan that takes the card's type | Anthropic charges the card | Anthropic lists no crypto option, so the crypto buys the card and the card pays Claude |
| Gift subscription | No one at the moment | Not applicable | Anthropic says gift subscriptions are unavailable to purchase for all accounts |
| PayPal or Venmo | No plan | Not applicable | Anthropic's article on declined cards says PayPal and Venmo are not accepted |
Paying in the Claude app
Anthropic's billing FAQ says a Claude subscription started in the iOS or Android app is paid through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and that you manage its payment method and receipts in your app store account. The store sets the payment options, so check them there before you subscribe.
Paying with a card bought with crypto
Anthropic's billing pages don't list crypto as a way to pay for Claude. With ZenVCC, crypto funds your balance, you buy a virtual card from that balance, and the virtual card is what you enter in Claude. Our guide on paying for Claude with crypto or USDT covers this route in detail.
ZenVCC is not a bank and gives no credit. You buy a card once, from money you have already added, and identity verification may be asked for before you buy.
Can you still buy a Claude gift subscription?
Claude gift subscriptions can't be bought at the moment. Anthropic's article on gifting a Claude subscription says gift subscriptions are currently unavailable to purchase, that this applies to all accounts, and that Anthropic has no date yet for when buying will be possible again (checked November 2026).
The same article says the person who redeems a gift needs no credit card, so a gift was one way onto a paid plan without a card of your own. With purchases paused, that route is closed. An offer to sell you a new Claude gift subscription, for crypto or anything else, is an offer of something Anthropic is not selling today.
What should you check in a card for a Claude subscription?
The most reliable card for a monthly Claude subscription is one that meets each point in Anthropic's article on declined cards. Anthropic decides which cards it accepts, so no card provider can guarantee acceptance, but you can look at each point below before you buy.
- The card type Anthropic sees. For Claude Pro, Max and Ultra on the web, Anthropic lists credit or debit cards. Claude Team adds prepaid cards. A virtual card has one of these types too, so check which one before you buy.
- A billing address that matches. Anthropic's article on declined cards says the billing address you enter must match the address the card's bank has on file, and that the billing address must match the country the card comes from. For a ZenVCC card, type the billing details exactly as My cards shows them.
- A supported region. Anthropic offers Claude only in the countries and regions listed in its Supported Regions Policy (checked November 2026), and the article on declined cards says the card's billing address and country must be on that list too. No card changes where Anthropic offers Claude, so check that your own country is listed.
- 3-D Secure. The same article says to complete 3-D Secure, the step in which the card's bank asks you to confirm a payment, when a payment asks for it. ZenVCC's My cards shows a card's number, expiry date, CVV and billing details, not one-time codes, so if a payment asks for a code you cannot complete, use a different card.
- Enough on the card for the price plus tax. The article on declined cards says the card needs enough funds for the total amount, and Anthropic's prices don't include tax, as the cost section below explains. ZenVCC cards can't be topped up from the dashboard, so pick a card that covers the charges you expect.
- Every renewal, not only the first charge. Anthropic's billing FAQ says the default card is charged for future renewals, and lists a failed payment as one reason a paid account shows as Free. The same FAQ says that, depending on your account, a saved card may be charged if your default card is declined, so remove any card you don't want used.
The Claude AI Reloadable Card
ZenVCC's Claude AI Reloadable Card is made for Claude subscriptions (Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise) and for Claude API credits. The Claude AI Reloadable Card is a bank-issued Visa debit card, not a prepaid card. It costs $200 in total, which is $190 plus the $10 issue fee, and it comes loaded with $190 to spend.
A debit card is a card type Anthropic lists for Claude Pro and Max on the web and for Claude Team. Anthropic decides which cards it accepts.
General-purpose cards for a Team plan
Claude Team takes credit, debit or prepaid cards, so a Team plan leaves more room. For a general-purpose card on Team, the catalog also has USA cards with the BIN shown: Visa Virtual Universal (BIN 442256) and Mastercard Reloadable Classic (BIN 527520), $110 in total each. Neither is made for Claude, so the Claude AI Reloadable Card is the one to start with.
What does it cost to pay for Claude this way?
Before tax, the $190 on the Claude AI Reloadable Card covers nine monthly Claude Pro charges or one Claude Max charge, and it does not cover a month of Claude Ultra. The table uses the prices on Anthropic's pricing page, checked November 2026, where Claude Pro on yearly billing is $17 a month, charged as $200 up front. Anthropic's Ultra plan article says the plan once called Max 20x is now called Ultra.
| Plan | Anthropic's price | What $190 covers |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro, monthly | $20 a month | 9 monthly charges |
| Claude Max | $100 a month | 1 monthly charge |
| Claude Ultra | $200 a month | Not a single month |
| Claude Pro, yearly | $200 up front | Not the yearly charge |
| Claude Enterprise | $20 per seat a month, billed yearly, at least 20 seats, plus usage | Not the yearly charge |
Tax comes on top. Anthropic's pricing page says the prices shown don't include applicable tax, and Anthropic's billing address article says tax is calculated from your billing address, so the real number of months can be lower than the table shows.
Claude Team is priced per seat, at $25 a month for each Standard seat on monthly billing, for teams of 2 to 150 people, according to the same pricing page. How far a card goes on Team depends on the number of seats.
On ZenVCC's side, the $200 total already includes the $10 issue fee, charged once when you buy. ZenVCC also charges $0.10 for each card transaction, so each monthly Claude charge adds $0.10. There is no monthly fee, and cards are valid for 3 years from the day they are ready. The ZenVCC pricing page lists every fee.
Ultra and yearly Pro each cost more than the $190 on the card, and cards can't be topped up from the dashboard, so choose the plan and the card together. Money on a card can't be moved back to your balance, but you can ask to withdraw unused balance in crypto ($10 minimum), and the ZenVCC team reviews each request.
How do you set up a card for Claude, step by step?
Step 1: Create a ZenVCC account and add funds to your balance with Bitcoin, USDT on TRC-20 or Solana, TRX or SOL. The deposit page shows the exact amount and the network to send on. Every deposit is checked on its blockchain before the balance is credited, automatically or after a review by the ZenVCC team.
Step 2: Finish identity verification if the dashboard asks for it. ZenVCC may ask you to verify your identity before you buy a card, and the account verification page shows what to upload.
Step 3: Open the Claude AI Reloadable Card page, check the $200 total and buy the card from your balance.
Step 4: Wait while the card shows as processing. When the card is ready, My cards shows its number, expiry date, CVV and billing details. If an order can't be filled, it is cancelled and the whole amount, issue fee included, goes back to your balance.
Step 5: Sign in to Claude on the web at claude.ai. To start a new subscription, choose your plan and enter the card on the payment form. To change the card on a plan you already pay for, Anthropic's billing FAQ says to open Settings > Billing and click Update next to your default payment method. On Claude Team, Anthropic's Team billing FAQ says the organization Owner changes the card under Organization settings > Billing.
Step 6: Enter the number, expiry date and CVV, and type the cardholder name and billing address exactly as My cards shows them. Anthropic's billing address article says Claude takes your billing address, and with it the tax, from the card.
Step 7: Complete any check Anthropic or the card's bank asks for. Then, in Settings > Billing, remove any older card you don't want charged.
Do Claude Code and the Claude API need a separate payment?
Claude Code needs no payment of its own when you have a paid plan. Anthropic's pricing page says Claude Code is included in all paid plans and shares the same usage limits as the rest of the plan (checked November 2026), so paying for the plan pays for Claude Code too. Anthropic's article on using Claude Code with a Pro, Max or Ultra plan adds one catch: if an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable is set, Claude Code uses that API key instead of the subscription, and the work is charged as API usage.
The Claude API is billed apart from a Claude subscription. Anthropic's article on paying for API usage says the API is paid with prepaid usage credits, bought in advance on the Billing page of the Claude Console, and that purchased credits cover API access, playground usage and Claude Code. The credits expire one year after purchase, and Anthropic says credit purchases are non-refundable. According to Anthropic's article on monthly API credits, Max, Ultra and Team plans come with monthly API credits, while Pro does not. ZenVCC's Claude AI Reloadable Card is made for Claude API credits as well as subscriptions.
What if Claude declines a card?
If Claude declines a payment, Anthropic's article on declined cards lists seven checks, from the billing location and the billing address to 3-D Secure, the funds on the card and a call to your bank. Our guide to a declined card on Claude takes each check in turn, and for a ZenVCC card you can write to support@zenvcc.com with the card's reference number from My cards.
