ChatGPT payment methods depend on two things: where you subscribe and which country you are in. On the website, OpenAI lists credit and debit cards for every country. Some countries also have a local method, the iOS and Android apps are billed through Apple and Google, and API credits are a separate purchase in US dollars.
This guide sets out what OpenAI's help center says, checked October 2026, and then explains how a virtual card fits in and what to check before you buy one. Everything about OpenAI below comes from its help center article on multi-currency billing. OpenAI can change its payment options, so look at the billing page of your own account before you pay.
ChatGPT payment methods on chatgpt.com
Credit and debit cards are the one method OpenAI lists for every country. For ChatGPT subscriptions bought on the web, at chatgpt.com, the help center gives "Credit and debit cards" as the payment method for all countries. If your country has no local option, a card is the way to pay on the web.
The help center does not list prepaid cards. Which ZenVCC card to use is covered further down.
Customers in the European Economic Area may be asked for Strong Customer Authentication. This is an extra step in which the card issuer asks you to confirm the payment when a card is added or charged. Keep it in mind when you choose a card, because not every card can complete that step.
Local payment methods by country
Some countries have a local method next to cards. The help center lists these, checked October 2026.
In the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, bank debit via Link is offered where it is supported. In India, UPI is available for the Go and Plus plans. In Indonesia you can use GoPay, and in Brazil you can use Pix. In Korea, Kakao Pay, Naver Pay and local cards are listed. In the Philippines the local option is GCash, and in Vietnam it is MoMo.
In the United States, eligible accounts can also use a ChatGPT wallet balance. Gift cards are offered in the United States only, in US dollars.
If your country is not named here, the help center lists credit and debit cards as the method for your web subscription. If one of the local methods above works for you, you may not need a card at all. A card is the one option that every country shares.
Paying in the app, and API credits
A subscription bought in the ChatGPT app for iOS or Android is not billed by OpenAI on the web. The help center says these subscriptions are managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. That means the payment method, renewals and changes are handled in your Apple or Google account, not in the ChatGPT settings on chatgpt.com.
If you want to pay a ChatGPT subscription with a specific card, decide first where you will subscribe. A card added on chatgpt.com pays for a web subscription. A subscription started in the app follows the store's own payment options.
The OpenAI API is billed apart from a ChatGPT subscription. A subscription such as ChatGPT Plus charges a fixed amount every month, while API platforms bill for usage. The help center says API credits can only be bought in US dollars.
If you run several projects on the API, give each one its own card. Each usage bill is then easy to trace, and when a project ends you simply stop using its card.
Where a virtual card fits
A virtual card is a card number, expiry date and CVV that exist only online. You enter it in a billing form exactly like a plastic card. At ZenVCC you add funds to your balance with Bitcoin, USDT on TRC-20 or Solana, TRX or SOL, and then buy a card from that balance. When the card is ready, its number, expiry date, CVV and billing details appear in My cards.
ZenVCC is not a bank and does not give credit. You don't apply for anything, and there is no credit line. You buy a card once, from money you have already added. Identity verification may be asked for before you buy.
OpenAI's help center does not list crypto among its payment methods. With ZenVCC, crypto is how you pay for the card, and the card is what you enter at checkout.
A virtual card also keeps your own bank card out of your subscriptions. The services you pay see the virtual card, never your bank details. If you use several AI tools, give each one its own card, so every charge is easy to trace and a problem with one card never affects the others.
Choosing a card for ChatGPT
The simplest choice is the card made for it.
ZenVCC's OpenAI ChatGPT Plus Payment Card is made for ChatGPT and OpenAI payments, and costs $110 in total. It is the card to start with for a ChatGPT subscription on chatgpt.com: buy it, wait until it is ready, and add it in ChatGPT's billing settings with the details from My cards.
If you prefer a general-purpose card, the catalog also has USA Visa and Mastercard cards with the BIN shown. Visa Virtual Universal (BIN 442256) and Mastercard Reloadable Classic (BIN 527520) cost $110 in total each. Virtual Visa Gold (BIN 434769) costs $210, and Virtual Visa Platinum (BIN 404389) costs $310.
These prices are totals: each card's price plus the $10 issue fee, charged once when you buy.
How to add the card to ChatGPT
Step 1: Create a ZenVCC account and add funds to your balance. The deposit page shows the exact amount and the network to send on. Every deposit is checked on its blockchain before the balance is credited, automatically or after a review by the ZenVCC team.
Step 2: Open the card's page, check its total, and buy it from your balance. The total, issue fee included, is shown before you pay.
Step 3: Wait while the card shows as processing. When it is ready, open My cards to see the number, expiry date, CVV and billing details. If an order can't be filled, it is cancelled and the whole amount, issue fee included, goes back to your balance.
Step 4: On chatgpt.com, open the billing settings and add a payment method. Enter the number, expiry date and CVV, and type the cardholder name and billing address exactly as they appear in My cards.
Step 5: Complete any check OpenAI or the card issuer asks for. Some providers run a small verification charge first, which is usually refunded.
If ChatGPT declines the card
Most declines have a simple cause. The billing details may not match the ones in My cards. The charge may be more than the card can cover, and cards can't be topped up from the dashboard.
My cards shows each card's number, expiry date, CVV and billing details, not one-time codes. If a payment asks for a code you cannot complete, use a different card. Trying the same card again and again rarely helps. If the card details look right and the payment still fails, contact support@zenvcc.com with the card's reference number from My cards.
Costs to plan for
A ZenVCC card costs its price plus the $10 issue fee, charged once. Each card transaction costs $0.10, so a monthly subscription charge adds $0.10 each time it is paid. There is no monthly fee and no account fee, and every total is shown before you pay. Cards are valid for 3 years from the day they are ready.
Your balance pays for cards. You can ask to withdraw what you don't use, in crypto, and our team reviews each request, but money on a card can't be moved back to the balance. Add what you plan to spend.
